Hobby update and to-do list

Greetings all, it's been a busy time for The Burning Eye recently, hence the lack of many meaningful posts on the blog. The major reason for that is of course Hero for a Day, which as I hope you'll have seen from last week's post was an absolute blast, and a huge success, so we'll be doing it all again next year (probably in September to avoid all the summer holidays).

Hero for a Day - The Aftermath!

Hi all,

well after 9 months and a lot of organising, promoting, cajoling etc, Hero for a Day finally happened on Saturday, and I have to say it was a huge success. The idea of the event was to raise money for the Children's Cancer and Leukaemia Group, and the estimated figure we've raised so far (with final sponsorship totals still to be received) is in excess of £1,300! You can still donate here if you wish, the site is open until the 20th September 2016.

Hero for a Day live update

Morning all! Hope you had a good night's sleep!

We're seven hours in to Hero for a Day now and three games done!

The defenders took a massive lead in the first game, winning the round 52-19. The attackers dragged that back slightly in the first kill team round, then in the third round Mj played his joker, switching the scores for one of the games. Despite that turning the round in our favour, the attackers took the round 28-26.

There's a few of us suffering some effects now of being up for the best part of a day already, with 16 hours still to go, but spirits are still high!

I'm expecting these pictures to go downhill rapidly.

Spirits were high at midnight

Yes, that is Tau charging a blood angel, but 5-1 odds are not that stacked even so.

Yeah, this game didn't turn out so well.

Watch out for more updates later.

8th edition 40k - a few thoughts/wishes on what I'd like to see.

Greetings all - I'm sure those of you who populate the blogosphere will have heard lots of rumours buzzing around regarding 8th edition 40k by now. Nothing is confirmed of course at this point, so it seemed perfectly reasonable that now was the time for me to put the metaphorical pen to paper regarding what I think are issues with the game at the moment and things I'd like to see put right/nerfed/struck from the game forever.

Horus Heresy Tale of Gamers - Part 4: Death Guard

Greetings all, welcome to the next part of the horus heresy tale of gamers series. Today we have a rather more brief post than usual - Martin has stepped up to give us the merest hint of his motivation and plans for the toughest of legions - the Death Guard. Over to you Martin, don't get too wordy about things!

Horus Heresy Tale of Gamers - Part 3: Mechanicum/Dark Mechanicum

Greetings all, so after yesterday's somewhat introspective post, today is much more upbeat, and focuses on the third player taking part in the upcoming series on the Horus Heresy. Today we're looking at a non-astartes faction, as Tom takes us on a ride with Robbie the Robot and his mechanicum meddlers!

Clean slates and taking a step back to look at the hobby.

Ok so I missed Spring by quite a way here, but I figured it was about time I looked back at things in general and tried to focus on what I really want to achieve in the hobby for the rest of the year. I think inevitably I've got sucked into a lot of detail recently what with organising Hero for a Day and all that has entailed, and at the moment I'm very much feeling like hobby things are spiraling out of my control, and I don't like that feeling at all!

Hero for a Day - two weeks to go! Tickets available! 40k Raffle!

Greetings all!

I saw a mighty fine article on Monday over on 30kplus40k covering an interesting looking 40k event, turns out it was mine, haha!

Seriously though, Hero for a Day is just over two weeks away, and I still have tickets available. Please please please forward this to anyone you know who may be interested in attending this event - I really would love to get to 20 players on the day!

We're going to start playing games at midnight on the 19th August and go right through till midnight on the Saturday, taking in 8 games along the way, including singles, doubles, kill team and handicap games, each scenario comes with a narrative (which I have managed to get voiced over by some generous hobby types I know) and the 8 games are linked through the day to the survival or fall of an imperial world.

Tickets for this are just £10. That's right, £10, for 8 games, and that includes two hot meals and entry into the raffle.

What's that? A raffle? What prizes are on offer?

Well, quite frankly, loads! We start with donations such as a space marine librarian, chaplain grimaldus etc and work through a tactical squad box, local store vouchers, through to the real biggies, a madwargaming exclusive hoodie embroidered with hero for a day, some amera vacuum formed terrain, the 'Lost Patrol' boxed game, Deathwatch:Overkill and a Cerastus Knight Castigator!

Tickets for this raffle are just £1 each and can either be bought on the day or by contacting me using the blog email theburningeyeblog@gmail.com

As I said above, I'd love to make this event the biggest success it can be so if you can spare a day to play some games and raise some money for charity then you'll be my friend forever! And if that doesn't convince you, the money is going to the Children's Cancer and Leukaemia Group, and so you'll be helping to save the lives of young children who otherwise may have no future - that's something I think is worth losing a night's sleep over!

July Review - mainly Knight related.

Greetings all, and welcome to my July review, which is taking the place of this week's hobby update as I was away on holiday last week so didn't get anything done!
