Hive Fleet Echidna makes first contact

Welcome all, let me open a datafile for you on the latest threat to the stability of the Imperium since the opening of the Great Rift. May I introduce to you, Hive Fleet Echidna.

Look out for a fluff post coming soon dealing with the origins of Hive Fleet Echidna, I'm pretty proud of this one!

But in the meantime, let me introduce to you the first great beast of the fleet, codename: Typhon, the Lord of Beasts. I hadn't originally planned on this being the first model I painted for the swarm as my intention was to get hold of the start collecting set first. However, my group of hobby friends started a painting challenge last weekend, with phase one of that challenge being to build a model. Thankfully I was able to nip over to my local FLGS to pick something up, and this was the only Nids kit they had available that day. Undaunted, I launched into the build last weekend, mixing up the parts in the kit inspired by the Hive Fleet Myrmidon Swarmlord from Tabletop Tactics to make a model that looks like it's leaping into the attack rather than the slightly less impressive static pose from the 'correct' assembly of the kit.

The base is a combination of stone and twigs from my garden, supplemented by a little bit of rapid setting polyfilla, stirland mud, gloss varnish and finally some little self adhesive sections of static grass.

Without further ado then, here's the pics, from first stage assembly to completion. Enjoy!

Till  net time!
